Canadian music journalist Martin Popoff calls Moore "a genius"
Renowned Canadian music journalist, critic and author Martin Popoff had high praise for Kevin Moore in a new podcast episode of "100 Songs That Define Heavy Metal."
Popoff, who has penned approximately 135 books on hard rock and heavy metal as well as more than 7,000 record reviews, shared his thoughts on the keyboardist in an episode focusing on Fates Warning's 1997 album, A Pleasant Shade of Gray, which was the band's eighth studio release and contains one song divided into 12 parts. The podcast is hosted by Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel.
Popoff's remarks in the episode were intended to provide some insight into the "historical significance and impact of the song," according to the video's description.
"For the soundscape of this album, we've got Kevin Moore on keyboards – the genius Kevin Moore from one of my favorite prog bands of all-time OSI, and Chroma Key," Popoff said. "Of course, he was in Dream Theater at one point too briefly. His presence is instantly felt when we get to Part II."
In addition to Popoff's appearance, Slagel also discussed the album's production with Bill Metoyer, who handled some engineering duties on the disc, and interviewed Fates Warning singer Ray Alder, who shared some insight into the album's creation, subsequent tours and fan reaction.
